It would probably matter which position you'd be going for with a CCNA/CCNP. Quite possible that an entry level networking position may see a CCNA as a plus or most likely a requirement.

Specializing, in my opinion, is a great way to go if you've already gained plenty of experience. Someone getting into networking may want to be well rounded as a start so they can open up themselves to other job opportunities.

I am in this field for more than 4 years now and when I done my CCNA at that time very few people have this certification makes its valuable but now nobody cares until unless you have any professional certification.
But I agree with you being a specialized is rilly very helpful but just focusing on one thing makes it very hard to hunt a good job you might not agree with me but I am speaking with my experience.

I agree Karl but I think it does make our certification a lot more valuable. Jobs nowadays are very specialized too so it doesn't make sense to study a whole lot of voice if you're just focused on switching.

There was time when only one track introduced for CCNA but now there were more than 6 tracks alone in CCNA like Security, RnS , design , voice etc.
I personally thing now ccna is bit difficult because the topic included in every track is in more detail.
