Many are saying that Yahoo is simply throwing in the towel for search. I don’t think it’s completely true.
This is just a friendly collaboration project between both companies to gain more market share, as a team, to compete against Google.
But what does Microsoft and Yahoo have that will take that market share from Google?
But the question is, for regular people like you and me – does it matter? Probably not because many of us have a habit of going to our default browser. Mine is Google and I do it subconsciously. When I want to search for something my mind doesn’t go
“Should I use Google, Yahoo or MSN?”
I just simply open up Google, it’s my home page and when I right click on a word in Firefox there’s an option to search Google for that word or phrase.
So we won’t really see big changes for a while. I’ll give Bing and Yahoo a chance but when it comes down to it some of us in the IT industry prefer a less cluttered page, such as Google’s minimalistic home page, to search for things. The ads don’t get in the way and there’s nothing really distracting. It’s just plain easy search.
I’m quite interested to see how this plays out for Microsoft and Yahoo but I honestly don’t see this being the best move for either company.
