July 29, 2009 UPDATE: Added short instructional video

I really dislike proprietary software and file extensions. There is no openness and standards to share such files with anyone on the Internet. There is an exception though! When the people at Webex made it easy for presenters to record their presentations they made everyone really happy. The downside is that the file the presentation is saved at is a .wrf file.

Unless properly trained, presenters will not know what to do with it. That’s why I am very happy they made a program that allowed you to convert it to a .wmv file that can be shared across all Windows users. In the environment I am in, most users are Windows users. I have included a zip file that you can download here which contains the Webex player, recorder and editor. I’ve also included a help file that came straight from Webex. I choose to not give you a direct link because you never know when they’ll move things around on their site.

You will want to use the Webex Recording Editor to open your .wrf recorded presentation and from there you can export it to a more friendlier format of .wmv for all your end users. Good luck.

Thanks for looking at this, scorm is a format for placing the program within an on-line learning managment system. The screens are individually published and can be advanced individually. The scorm type enables the program to be played as opposed to the massive video files which really will not play on the web without a long download process etc..

That's going to depend on whether or not you can convert the wmv file to your desired format. There are various programs out there, so far none that I can recommend. I've managed to convert wmv to avi within Ubuntu.

But you say you want to place the program within a management system. So you want the actual program tied into a user interface?
