July 29, 2009 UPDATE: Added short instructional video
I really dislike proprietary software and file extensions. There is no openness and standards to share such files with anyone on the Internet. There is an exception though! When the people at Webex made it easy for presenters to record their presentations they made everyone really happy. The downside is that the file the presentation is saved at is a .wrf file.
Unless properly trained, presenters will not know what to do with it. That’s why I am very happy they made a program that allowed you to convert it to a .wmv file that can be shared across all Windows users. In the environment I am in, most users are Windows users. I have included a zip file that you can download here which contains the Webex player, recorder and editor. I’ve also included a help file that came straight from Webex. I choose to not give you a direct link because you never know when they’ll move things around on their site.
You will want to use the Webex Recording Editor to open your .wrf recorded presentation and from there you can export it to a more friendlier format of .wmv for all your end users. Good luck.
